A few chips in a brittle coating are different from coarse breakout through a plywood core. Take a close look at both faces and label the retained side. Note whether the damage runs the full cut or starts at one location, such as a rail joint. This gives you a baseline for testing changes. Evaluate support on the other face

A rail strip does not automatically protect every visible edge on both pieces. The underside, the offcut side and the final corner can need attention to the approved support and splinter-control arrangement. Make a trial using the same material and orientation as the real job. Do not apply a universal face-up rule to all saws and blades. If both faces are important, inspect both before deciding the setup is acceptable; the cleaner face alone may conceal a problem for the finished assembly.

Test a permitted scoring procedure carefully

Where the saw provides an approved scoring method, compare it with a normal cut on representative scrap. Keep the final line and rail position consistent so the test is meaningful. Do not improvise backward cutting because it appeared in a demonstration for another system. If scoring leaves a second line or a wider visible groove, check its alignment and suitability rather than adding more passes. A process that improves one face but damages the required finished edge has not solved the actual problem.

Change one variable and keep a sample

Use labeled test pieces to compare the original setup with the change. Record the blade, material, strip condition and procedure. This prevents a series of random adjustments from hiding the cause. Once the edge meets the project's requirement, stop optimizing on scraps and verify the first real component. A painted shop fixture and an exposed veneered joint may need different finish standards; establish yours explicitly so you can distinguish an acceptable saw cut from a problem that needs further work.
