The buying decision is less about the word cordless than whether you can keep a two-pack tool ready without disrupting everything else you use. Two packs change the ownership calculation
Makita describes the XPS01 as a 36V saw powered by two 18V LXT batteries. The XPS01PTJ package includes two 5.0Ah packs and a dual-port charger. A tool-only listing and that kit therefore represent different starting points, even though both center on the same plunge-saw family.
List the batteries you actually have available during a project. Packs normally shared by a drill, light and extractor may not be free for the saw. A theoretical collection of batteries is less useful than a pair charged and available when the sheet is supported.
Pay for mobility you will actually use
Think through a kitchen installation: the cutting area might be outdoors while measurements happen inside. Moving a cordless saw between prepared workstations may be useful, but the long rail and support surface still need transport. Removing a lead does not make the whole cutting system pocket-sized.
For a fixed shop that already routes an extractor hose to one bench, the advantage may be smaller. Compare the complete XPS01 system with a corded SP6000J, including the batteries you would otherwise need to purchase. Use your work pattern to decide where the extra investment belongs.
Do not confuse XPS01 with AWS-equipped XPS02
Makita's current XPS01Z and XPS01PTJ specifications mark AWS as No. The nearby XPS02ZU is the LXT model to investigate when AWS extractor communication is an important requirement. Do not infer that feature from a seller grouping several Makita saws into one listing. Read the selected variation and exact manufacturer model together.
Extractor automation is worth evaluating separately from extraction itself. You need a suitable hose connection, an appropriate extractor and a way to manage the hose throughout the cut. A convenient start signal does not resolve a hose that snags on the edge of a panel.
Plan one sheet project before ordering a rail bundle
Write the longest rip and crosscut in your first project. Then allow for the saw's supported starting and finishing positions as directed by the manual. A rail with a length close to the panel dimension is not automatically adequate for that cut.
Joined rails can simplify transport, but their connection becomes another setup to inspect. A one-piece long rail needs storage and a safe route through doors. Decide which compromise fits your vehicle and shop rather than choosing solely by the greatest advertised total rail length.
Blade and depth are separate buying checks
This is a 6-1/2-inch plunge-saw family, but that size label is only a starting point for blade selection. Confirm bore, kerf, body thickness, speed rating and intended material against the manual and blade specification. A replacement advertised for an ordinary circular saw should not be treated as approved merely because the diameter looks right.
For thick material, obtain explicitly on-rail cutting depth at the angle you need. We do not fill that field from a generic maximum. Reserve some purchasing attention for clamps and support so the intended work can be positioned securely before a cut begins.
