Start with five elimination gates

Write the next project's longest guided cut, thickest material on the rail, required bevel and repeated dimensions. Then eliminate any saw with an unknown or insufficient required value. A maximum depth published without rail qualification must not be treated as an on-rail capacity.

Next check the rail span and family, power source, exact blade specification, extraction connection and complete package. These gates matter before brand preference because a saw body cannot replace a missing rail, suitable blade, battery or supported work surface.

• Rail gate: enough approved rail length for the cut and the saw's operating approach.

Package identity is part of the choice. Makita's SP6000J page lists the guide rail as optional, Milwaukee's 2831-21 box list includes battery, charger and PACKOUT box but no rail, WEN says the CT9502 rail is not included, and Kreg lists only the saw and manual while describing its 62-inch ACS guide as sold separately.

Corded versus cordless is a workflow decision

A cord avoids a new battery and charging plan, but the cable and hose still have to move safely through the full cut.

Start with cordless candidates such as Milwaukee 2831, Makita XPS01 or DEWALT DCS520 when mobility or an existing suitable platform changes the workflow. Existing batteries can reduce duplicated equipment, but platform ownership does not prove capacity, runtime or package fit. Compare the exact battery quantity, charger and rail rather than the logo on another tool.

Treat documented unknowns as real exclusions

The comparison table leaves unconfirmed rail-specific depths blank. That is intentional. Makita's SP6000J page publishes general maximum depths, while the retained evidence does not qualify those values as on-rail. Festool's TS 55 FEQ manual explicitly distinguishes 51 mm with the FS rail from 55 mm without it. WEN's current manual likewise supplies separate with-track values.

Blade diameter and arbor are also only the first compatibility checks. Kerf, plate thickness, tooth form, material, speed rating and any riving or splinter system still matter. Similar-looking guide grooves do not establish approved cross-brand rail operation, so unresolved fit is a stop condition rather than a favorable assumption.

Compare equal, complete systems

Build one total for each surviving candidate using current quotes: exact saw or kit, enough rail, connectors, clamps, the required blade, batteries and charger, extraction adapters, support and storage. Do not compare a bare tool in one column with a rail-and-power kit in another and call the cheaper number a value winner.

If several systems still pass, the final choice can reasonably turn on existing equipment, service access, setup repetition and storage.
