First choose between a stationary and movable station
A cutting station beside a reliable outlet gives the corded SP6000J a clear reason to be considered. You avoid adding a battery charging routine to the saw. This can be particularly sensible when extraction already ties most work to one bench.
If the station repeatedly moves between prepared locations, compare the cordless models. Count how often those moves occur in a typical project. Cordless convenience is real only insofar as it helps your workflow: the rail, sheet support and extraction arrangement may still need moving. Do not pay to eliminate a lead while overlooking the much larger problem of where a full sheet can safely rest.
LXT owners have two separate plunge-saw choices
The XPS01 and XPS02 use two 18V LXT batteries. Makita's current XPS01Z and XPS01PTJ specifications mark AWS as No, while XPS02ZU is AWS-equipped and includes the wireless unit. That feature and package distinction is a reason to keep exact model identifiers visible while comparing seller variations.
Inventory the packs available during a job, not just the ones you own. Batteries serving a drill, light or another saw may be unavailable at the moment a sheet is ready to cut. Include a charging arrangement and any needed reserve in the complete cost. An apparent bare-tool saving disappears quickly if the purchase needs a new pair of packs and a different charging routine.
GPS01 is the XGT branch, with the letters in that order
Makita USA identifies its XGT plunge model as GPS01Z. It uses the 40V max XGT family, rather than the LXT system used by XPS01 and XPS02. The incorrect spelling GSP01 can lead to poor search results or mismatched listings.
An XGT owner has a different starting point from an LXT owner considering a second platform. Compare the exact batteries and charger required, and do not convert the voltage label into a claim of superior accuracy. Guided capacity, blade selection, rail setup and support still need to match the project independently of the battery-system choice.
Decide what AWS would change before paying for it
Makita's AWS system provides wireless control communication with appropriately equipped extraction equipment. XPS02ZU includes its wireless unit. GPS01Z and GPS01M1J are AWS-capable, but Makita lists the 198901-5 transmitter as a separate purchase. Check the selected tool, transmitter state and extractor requirements rather than treating the AWS label as a complete system.
Then describe the action it would save. If switching the extractor interrupts dozens of separate cuts, automation may be useful. If you already work comfortably at one extraction station, its value may be smaller. The hose still needs a secure connection and a clear route along the full cut. Wireless starting should never be credited with solving poor hose routing or inadequate material support.
Compare boxes by contents, not by the largest discount
SP6000J and the rail-containing SP6000J1 are different packages. The XPS01PTJ is another example where a specific kit adds power accessories to the model family. Seller-created bundles may contain additional rails or cases, so the shortest product title is not an adequate inventory.
For each offer, list the saw, included guide length, batteries, charger, case and extraction pieces. Mark which items are useful immediately and which duplicate equipment you already have. Evaluate the total still needed to finish the first project. A bundle with unnecessary extras is not automatically a bargain, and a cheap bare saw is not automatically an economical cutting station.
